A wide variety of engineered plastics are utilized in the production of Semiconductors and Electronic equipment, ranging from polycarbonate and PEI from the amorphous category, to thermosets, to highly heat-resistant imidized and semi-crystalline materials. Flame retardance is of special importance in this segment, to maintain optimal performance in environments that generate extreme heat. Static dissipative grades are also typically required. Using plastics in semicon/electronics can deliver a wealth of advantages including weight reduction, resistance to corrosive acids, low outgassing and electrical insulating properties.
